North Leeds trail Ultramarathon

OPEN 1 APRIL - 30 SEPT

RACE 1 OF THE GPX ULTRA LEAGUE (GPX-U1)

A Brutal 48km (29 Mile) Trail Ultramarathon route set along the North Leeds skyline featuring views of Harewood House, Arthington Viaduct, Wharfedale and Almscliffe Crag. The Route consisting of two loops starts in Eccup through to Shadwell into Roundhay Park, back to Shadwell, Wike and Harewood Estate, then through a second loop to Arthington, Bramhope, Otley Chevin and back via Old Pool Bank and back to Eccup. The route taking place mainly on public footpaths follows the Leeds Country Way, The Ebor Way and The Dales Way and is 72% trail / 28% paved.

The North Leeds Trail Marathon is ideal for experienced hikers and trail runners, boasting a handful of miles over the official marathon distance, even more if you happen to get lost!

Official Start: The New Inn, Eccup, Leeds, LS16 8AU*

Other suggested Starts: The Parkrun Bandstand Roundhay Park Leeds LS8 2HH (The furthest East checkpoint of the course)

Surprise View The Chevin, LS21 3DG (Furthest West checkpoint of the course)

If starting at the New Inn you will head out to do one loop and pass the The New Inn before heading out on the second loop.

*The New Inn will be closed until 17 May 2021, once open The New Inn s looking forward to welcoming all runners to use the pub for parking and post run refreshments. If you wish to attempt or recce before 17 May please avoid parking at The New Inn due to works.

Great Owl Running hopes to organise an official running of the race closer to the end of the race’s opening window, information on this possibility will be announced in due course.

The only way to enter the North Leeds Trail Ultramarathon is to sign up for the GPX Grand Prix where you will get an online race number, this also means you will be able to run the other 2 Ultra Marathons in this series! Enter Here

RULES

COVID-19 & Social Distancing

To optimise minimal travel, runners may decide to start wherever they like so long as they complete the whole course. The course MUST be completed in the advertised direction.


Travel

 

As the route covers a large area there are multiple places to start from.

Parking Roundhay

Roundhay Park has many car free parking spaces, Mansion Lane, and Wetherby Road all being on part of the course.

Parking Otley Chevin

There are mutiple car parks on Surprise View and York Gate Quarry.

Parking Eccup

Roadside parking, please park safely and responsibly when parking in and around Eccup.

Parking The New Inn, Eccup

The New Inn opens on 17 May, after 17 May Runners are welcome to use the Car Parking Facilities

Trains

Unfortunately there are no train stations near this course.


Recomended Gear

Watch / Phone capable of reading a GPX trace

Suitable clothing, check the forecast, dress appropriately

Suitable footwear, sections of this race cross open fields, which will be muddy at certain times of the year.


WARNING

ROAD CROSSINGS This route contains a couple of road crossings, be sure to stay alert when crossing the roads.

LIVESTOCK This route may involve crossing fields of livestock (Sheep). Please ensure you close all gates behind you.
